We decided to look up what roller coaster means according to Google, and look what we found; “a fairground attraction that consists of a light railway track which has many tight turns and steep slopes on which people ride in small, fast open carriages.” That explains why investors tend to relate to stock market movements with roller coaster rides so frequently, the fairground attraction here is the stock exchange and the turns and slopes are naturally occurring troughs and crests that we see in price movement from day to day. You get a similar feeling in the pit of your stomach when you think about the ups and downs of the stock market. One minute you’re flying high and the next you’re worried about surviving. Towards the end you think you may have had fun clearly you are not sure about it anyways.
The 100 index witnessed a volatile session today and after hitting its intraday low at 32,005.22 (-314.83pts) it managed to recover off its lows to close down 54.40 points at 32,265.65 (-0.17%).
Heavy selling was seen in E&P chain with bulk of the contribution to downside stemming from POL, MARI and FFC, while contribution to upside came from HBL, PPL and LUCK to the 100 index. Consumer discretionary, materials and financials stood out among st top performing sectors where as Industrial, health care and telecommunication stood out as the worst sectors.
We reiterate that investors should avoid taking exposure in the market at this point in time, with API weekly crude oil stock data due later tonight and China trade data scheduled to be released tomorrow morning.
