The 100 index has been closing on a reactive note for some time now ... and it doesn’t bode well for investors’ sentiment at all. Despite regional markets opening on a positive note today, taking their inspiration from rally in crude oil and US markets overnight, the European markets caved into selling pressure after API data showed crude oil inventory had a larger-than usual weekly build as a result of refinery maintenance season. With EIA data due later tonight any surprises on the upside can potentially influence crude oil prices for the worst.
The 100 index despite rallying in the initial half and touching a new recent high of 31,386.35 (+311.97 / +0.99%) closed on a reactive note at 31,101.38 (+27.00 points / +0.09%). E&P stocks retraced their intra-day gains on the back of declining crude oil prices (-3.55%). Amongst market movers PAKT, PSEL, KAPCO, EFERT and MCB contributed towards index gains whereas FFC, LUCK, ABOT, UBL and ENGRO were the star laggards for the day.
FFC posted 4QCY15 NPAT of PkR4, 820mn (EPS: PkR3.79), down 7.7%YoY but up by 31%QoQ, taking CY15 earnings to PkR16, 766bn (EPS: PKR13.18), down 7.7%YoY. 4QCY15 earnings came in slightly above consensus estimates on higher than expected DAP retention price. The company also announced final cash dividend of PkR3.42/share, taking the total payout to PkR11.86/share. Also, EFOODS posted 4QCY15 NPAT of PkR561mn (EPS: PkR0.73), down 12%YoY/-10%QoQ taking full-year CY15 NPAT to PkR3.16bn (EPS: PkR4.13/sh), up 3.5xYoY. The result came in significantly below consensus due to 574bps sequential drop in GMs to 17.4% in 4QCY15 (16.8% in 4QCY14).
In the end, we continue to remain skeptical about the possibility of bulls breaking past the resistance zone (31,150 - 31,550) anytime soon.
